Battlefield Vietnam 2 : Gameplay

Holy Crapola !!! Looks like we have all the payload options that we have in BC2, Syringe instead of Defib, M79 Blooper instead of 40mm, wonder if we get scopes . . . . Seems Santa will have a bulging sack this winter.

Medal of Honour : BETA

I was lucky enough to get a BETA code for MOH from a fellow tester and fired it up straight away. Right it seems DICE have been busy. On offer are 2 maps that radically differ in look and gameplay. 1st up is" MISSION", now this is as close to RUSH mode on BC as you can get but instead of a stupid box or flag there are real objectives like a roadblock,AA guns,Machine gun nests etc . . . to capture, blow up and destroy. This plays like BC RUSH as in that a new area opens up as you progress past the old one but at a faster pace and it looks far superior to BC with lots of debris and rubbish fluttering about and more undulation to the terrain. Then we move onto "Team Assault" which basically is EA/DICE going CALL OF DUTY. Thats it really, its just COD with the Frostbite game engine. It has simply been designed to capture all the COD fanboys away from Activision and to ease them gently into the Battlefield Universe. Square / Rectangular playing areas with 2 story buildings, chokepoint alleys, Market stalls, little camping holes, random grenade deaths on the random spawns as areas are dominated pushing you to the otherside of the map . . . Sound familiar ???
And there lies the problem . . . what we have is just COD mk II with a little tease for the BC fans with theBattlefield styled Mission game mode. Personally i wish they had released this as a BC2 add on pack with new characters set in the Heldmund valley. Its just doesnt feel like a new game just a stop gap till Battlefield III is released next year and some competion for Treyarch's forthcoming COD : BLACK OPS in the autumn.
Dont get me wrong this looks awesome and when cleaned up will be a serious title and very easily kick COD in the nuts due to it having the different game modes. lets hope for more upgrades and a veritable feast of maps with release.
In the meantime the beta is running like crap, its glitchy, weapons feel unresponsive, you lock up and crash, no indication of ranking up, too much sprite collison as you walk thru walls, rubberbanding about . . . . yeah i know its a beta but this plays like an Alpha build, very rough and ready. But when its working smooth you can see the potential it has.Its gonna take a lot of cleaning up and polishing before release. 1 other thing thats bugging me . . . do we really need this game ? BF Vietnam is coming a month later . . . . .
ALSO . . . if there are 20'000 codes available how come there is never more than 900 people playing online . . i smell BULLSHIT. Come on EA just give the beta away like a Demo on marketplace and lets have some fun.

GHC Know your Weapon #4 : M24 Sniper Rifle

The M24 Sniper Weapon System (SWS) is the military and police version of the Remington 700 rifle, M24 being the model name assigned by the United States Army after adoption as their standard sniper rifle in 1988. It is also used by the Israeli Defence Forces. The M24 is referred to as a "weapons system" because it consists of not only a rifle, but also a detachable telescopic sight and other accessories.

The M24 was designed to use the "long-action" version of the Remington M700 BDL. This was chosen because the designers originally wished to use the powerful but militarily obsolete .30-06 Springfield (7.62x63mm) cartridge, as it was still in procurement channels. This was later replaced with the shorter 7.62x51mm NATO-standard cartridge. The action in the original model reportedly caused feeding problems if the 7.62mm ammunition wasn't seated firmly towards the back of the internal magazine.

It originally came tapped for the Leupold Ultra M3 10x40mm fixed-power scope, which came with a circle-shaped etched-glass reticle. This was later replaced in 1998 by the cheaper Leupold Mk.4 LR/T M3 10x40mm front-focal fixed-power scope with a mil-dot reticle.
N.B.: The first number is the scope's magnification (10) and the second number in millimeters (40mm) is the diameter of the objective lens. A fixed power scope has only one magnification (e.g., 10x) and a variable power scope can be adjusted to focus between a range of magnifications (e.g., 3-9x is adjustable from a minimum power of 3x to a maximum power of 9x).

It comes with a detachable Harris 6-9" BRM-S swivel bipod unit.

The M24 SWS is to be replaced with the M110 Semi-Automatic Sniper System, a contract awarded to Knight's Armament Company. However, the Army still continued to acquire M24s from Remington until February 2010.

Duke Spook Bomber

So after some digging it turns out my gamertag was used during WW2 as the name for a B 17 Bomber of the 400th Bombardment Group, Charleston USA.

here is their Logo :
they even had their own song :

Duke the Spook

The night is calm – the sky is clear,
A perfect set-up for a bombardier.
Motors roar with an angry spark
The big B-24’s on their marks; From the ground with shrieks and wails,
A ghostly figure hits the ether trails,
A mascot, in a high hat and tails.
Meet the gallant swell – “Duke the Spook”,
Charming as all hell – “Duke the Spook”.
With flowery phrase on his lips
He’ll annihilate those Nips
when his killing smile greets the foe.
Death is done in style, don’t you know?
Class will win and they’ll give in;
You’ll shake the hand that shook Berlin
Oh, “Duke the Spook!”

Also seems another Bomber squadron had the same name :
