So Close I Can Taste It . . . .

Woh !!! 32 players New OFP2 video, showing the PvP (player vs. player, NOT coop) Multiplayer mode. There are two teams, in each one are 16 players. PvP battles will take place in combat zones on the island. Accessing the whole island in multiplayer is only possible in 4 player-coop.

Well the day is nearly upon us to mount an attack on the island of Skira. I was a massive fan of the original Operation Flashpoint game on the old Xbox and PC. The scale of the game even then was breathtaking and the ways you were simply left alone with a map and a compass deep behind enemy territory had you gripped with nerves, how you could take any vehicle and use it to your own ends like infiltrating a chopper base at night with night vision to steal a gunship to use for a totally different objective or finding the sports rally car in a garage and just putting the toe to the gas and driving like a maniac for hours or till it was hit by an enemy RPG / Gunship. The game was also modded to fuck on the PC with the fans building situations and conflicts to try out. And this is where im slightly worried . . . .

This was easy on the PC but im fearing how this scope and freeroam will translate over to the consoles. I hope we dont end up with a blindless firefight mode like COD or a pale imitation of Battlefield Flag or Gold crate captures. Im hoping that 4 / 8 of us on a side can mount massive attacks on bases where objectives are either to attack and capture or hold and defend using the massive array of vehicles and weapons on maps that are 3 times the size of the Battlefield ones.

I hope we dont get shirked compared to the PC version that is released at the same time with an inferior selection of maps and game modes that will in the long run make this stand out over other combat shooters if they keep up the back up with plenty of DLC unlike Dice who just seem to turn their back on a title 2/3 months after release when thousands of people are still playing their games with a desire for more maps and game modes.

The graphic engine for this title is superb and from the video footage that has been previewed the gameplay will match up as well. I hope the multiplayer is good otherwise i think i might go like Micheal Douglas in Falling Down and go POSTAL !!!!
Anyone getting the limited edition . . . . ;)

And the mighty Skira itself
